With the fire service transitioning from the National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS) to the National Fire Incident Management System (NERIS), many members are inquiring about updates to our data-focused training.
This article clarifies the status of the course "WHY DATA: Understanding your role in fire incident data" and how future updates will be managed.
Is the "WHY DATA" course being updated for NERIS?
Yes. As the industry shifts to NERIS, we are working to ensure our training content reflects these changes. To ensure a smooth transition for all learners, we are following these guidelines:
- Current Course Access: The existing version of the "WHY DATA" course remains active and available for enrollment.
- Version Updates: Updates for NERIS will be released as a new version of the course rather than an immediate replacement of the current content.
- Completion Grace Period: Once the new NERIS-compliant version is launched, we will provide a grace period. This allows learners currently in the middle of the NFIRS-focused course to complete their training and receive credit before that version is taken offline.
